Program RAIN For a village where it rains but water is scarce Ensuring access to clean water and improving quality of life through rainwater harvesting and utilization

What is Program RAIN?

(Activity region: Indonesia)

In Indonesia, infrastructure and geological challenges make access to water difficult, even in areas where rainfall is abundant.
Severe water shortages force some households to spend a significant portion of their income on purchasing water—some even resort to selling their livestock to make ends meet.
We have partnered with PT. Gama Inovasi Berdikari (GIB*), a social enterprise that shares our vision, to help solve Indonesia’s water challenges. Through initiatives such as installing rainwater storage systems, we aim to create an environment where no one is left behind and everyone has access to clean water.
In October 2023, we signed a partnership agreement with GIB and in July 2024 launched our efforts under the name Program RAIN (Rahmat Allah untuk INdonesia, meaning “God’s blessings for Indonesia”).

GIB is a social enterprise dedicated to addressing Indonesia’s water crisis through the widespread adoption of its core product, the GAMA-Rain Filter. Its mission is to bring the research and technological innovations of its parent institution, Universitas Gadjah Mada, into real-world applications, creating businesses that contribute to solving social challenges.
The GAMA-Rain Filter features a simple rainwater purification function, allowing local communities to easily operate and maintain it themselves.
